th-who-are-we-imageSally Openshaw is a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist, Trainer and Supervisor. She developed and manages Towerhouse Counselling and provides counselling services to individuals, couples and two local organizations for their staff team members.  Her specialist areas are counselling people with sexual and relationships problems, working with people with sexual addiction and working with people who have experienced trauma using EMDR.

Sally Openshaw

Sally developed her passion for counselling as an oncology nurse alongside individuals struggling with the impact cancer had on their sexuality and relationships. She completed an MSc in Human Sexuality in 1991,  which led to her Chairing the professional body called the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapy (COSRT). She has advised government working parties on policy and standards of practice. Sally has a commitment to sound ethical practice and sits on complaint panels to review the conduct of other therapists. Sally was awarded a Fellowship from COSRT in 2009 in recognition of the contribution she had made to Sexual and Relationship Therapy in the UK.

Sally qualified as a teacher in 1989 and has taught counselling related topics locally, nationally and internationally. She is the Director, manages and is one of the tutors for Towerhouse Training. Sally is an External Verifier for some of CPCAB training courses in the South West.

Loraine CairnsLoraine Cairns is a qualified Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. She is accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and certified with the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association (IIPA). Loraine is also a qualified EMDR Therapist, having completed EMDR Europe Accredited training, and is now working towards Practitioner status.

She works with a wide range of clients, both at Towerhouse and in private practice. Loraine has completed the CPCAB Level 6 Certificate in Counselling Supervision and provides supervision in training, in private practice and at Cruse Bereavement Care. Loraine is also a qualified teacher and has been in the tutor team at Towerhouse since 2011, teaching Level 3 and Diploma students.

Loraine is passionate about her part in providing high quality training, supervision and therapy for the North Devon community and beyond. She is active in her own Continued Professional Development, attending regular CPD events and reading a wide range of books, journal articles and research digests. Originally trained as a modern languages teacher, Loraine joined the counselling and psychotherapy profession after many years as an expatriate living and working amongst diverse communities and cultures. She now lives on the coast in North Devon and loves it!

John RaymontJohn Raymont is a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor who has worked as a volunteer counsellor at two local agencies, one of which provides counselling for those who have mental health problems. John previously worked as a lithographic printer and worked for 8 years as a pastoral visitor for a local church, which led to John starting his counselling training. John completed the Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling at Towerhouse in December 2012, and having trained with Cruse, is now a bereavement volunteer working in this agency.

In June 2013 John started working at Towerhouse as the office manager, helping Sally Openshaw with all the various tasks necessary to provide the range of training opportunities that are on offer, from the Introduction to Counselling Skills right through to the level 5 CBT course. John manages the volunteer counsellor and provides assessments of need on behalf of Towerhouse. John is also developing his teaching skills from September 2013 onwards.


Sally Chapman-Walker

Sally Chapman-Walker is a counsellor and psychotherapist, qualified in Therapeutic Counselling and Integrative Psychotherapy through the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association (IIPA). She continues to develop her private practice having gained experience through working as a volunteer counsellor for Counselling for Carers in Devon.

With a diverse background in design and farming on Exmoor, Sally has also been involved in community projects, as a school governor, and working for a joint Macmillan/CAB initiative. Designing poetry books in collaboration with local authors has recently provided Sally with some of her own therapeutic input. Teaching the Counselling Skills course at Towerhouse since 2013 has been a new and exciting experience, confirming Sally’s belief that learning can be fun!

Alison Huxtable recently joined Towerhouse Training as a tutor on the Diploma Course, which she is able to combine with her own practice, organisational responsibilities for Cruse Bereavement Care and sitting as a judge in the local Family Court. She is a member of BACP and of the International Integrative Psychotherapy Association and undertakes work as a supervisor.

Following Call to the Bar, Grays Inn, she joined a succession of American exploration and production companies, with extensive interests in the North Sea, ultimately holding responsibility on an operating board of an energy group with businesses in Northwest Europe. After leaving the oil industry she held directorships in a range of diverse areas, including the Rose Theatre Trust, DEFRA and the University of Plymouth.
